Epoxy construction process for basement floor
Epoxy paint for basement has 2 main types is epoxy coating and epoxy self-leveling. But for basement areas that are not subject to high impact, people often use epoxy coating system to save costs. To do this, the constructor needs to know 5 steps:
Step 1: Treatment of floor surface
The treatment of floor surface is the first step. Although it is not difficult to perform, this stage still requires meticulousness from the contractor.
Use an industrial 3-phrase floor grinder to create a rough surface. Then use vacuum clean completely dust before construction.
Step 2: Filling the surface
This act will help the surface of basement floor to achieve absolute flatness. The imperfections on the floor surface will be covered with a specialized mortar. Then the constructor sanded and continued to clean the floor.
Step 3: Apply primer
Primer is an important step to help connect the coating to the concrete floor, as well as to make the concrete floor hard, solid and more durable. Therefore, the constructor needs to cover evenly at the locations on the floor, ensuring the next coat has the best adhesion.
Step 4: Apply the first epoxy coating
With this coating, the constructor can use short hair roller or paint spray gun. But with each type of paint spray gun should be used with different rates suitable for each paints. For example, APT’s ADO121 solvent free epoxy paint should use a single-shot sprayer with a 0.015 inch tungsten nozzle in a 20:1 ratio. It is best to mix 5% solvent before use.
Step 5: Applying epoxy coating to the basement floor of the second coat
Before applying the second layer of paint, the construction needs to test a thorough inspection of the entire surface, and troubleshoot problems on the floor.
Usually the minimum time to apply the next coat is 12 hours. Maximum time of subsequent coat is 48 hours. Therefore, at least after 1 day of application, the new builder can apply the next coat of paint. After 24 hours, the surface is finished and light movement is possible.
