Epoxy paint for basement floor - The application process of epoxy coating for basement floor
How does the application process of epoxy coating on basement floor? So what are the advantages of applying basement floor paint? Let's find out with APT in the article below!
Supermarkets, office buildings, and commercial centers often have basement parking. But this is the place with high humidity and most affected by vehicles. To decrease these problems, many buildings choose to use basement floor paint.
Advantages of basement floor epoxy coating
- Good corrosion resistance, increasing the life of the concrete floor
The concrete floor is place has many vehicles so it subject to many strong impact. When apply epoxy coating, the floor is protected against these agents. The paint sticks to the concrete structure, minimizing dust, oil and oil falling on the floor.
- Good anti-slip resistance
The basement ramp is a place where slippery accidents are very easy to happen. But when apply epoxy paint; the surface will be more friction, anti-slip even when the floor is wet.
- High aesthetics
Not only have corrosion and anti-slip resistant ability, epoxy paints also have a wide variety of colors to choose. The floor is covered with a beautiful glossy paint. Harmonious colors create a cool, clean and hygienic space.
Application process of basement floor paint
There are 2 main types of epoxy coating for basement: coating epoxy paint and self-leveling epoxy paint. But for the basement area not subject to a great impact, people often coating epoxy paint to save costs. To do this, the constructor needs to understand the following 5 steps:
Step 1: Surface treatment of the floor
The treatment of the floor surface is the first step. Although it is not difficult to do, this step still requires meticulousness from the constructor.
Use an industrial 3-phase floor grinder to create roughness for the floor. Then use a vacuum cleaner to completely clean dust before construction.
Step 2: Apply the primer
Primer is an important step in connecting the coating to the concrete floor, as well as making the concrete floor harder, stronger and more durable. Therefore, the constructor needs to apply evenly at all positions on the floor, ensuring the next coating has the best adhesion.
Step 3: Patching surface
This is the action that helps the basement floor achieve absolute flatness. The imperfect positions on the floor will be covered with a specialized mortar layer. Then the constructor proceeds to sand and continue cleaning the floor.
Step 4: Apply the basecoat
With this coating, the constructor can use a short hair roller or airless spray. But for each paint, airless spray should be used with different proportions. For example: Solvent-free epoxy paint ADO121 should use airless spray with a single line piston pump with a 0.015 inch tungsten nozzle tip in a 20: 1 ratio. It is better to mix 5% solvent before use.
Step 5: Applying the topcoat
Before applying the topcoat, the constructor needs to test a full surface inspection, fixing problems on the floor.
Normally, the minimum time for applying the next coating is 12 hours. The maximum time for next coating is 48 hours. Therefore, at least after 1 day of construction, the constructor can apply the next coating. After 24 hours, the surface is finished and can light traffic.
What kind of paint should the investor use to apply for the basement?
KERASEAL ADO121 is a 2-component solvent-free and phenol coating system. The product provides the protection of the floor surface from light to medium loads. This meets the requirements of the basement floor, where there is a lot of traffic with low load.
